New Plus Size Pole Competition: Voluptuous Vixen!

There’s a new plus size pole dancing competition, Voluptuous Vixen, that’s starting quite the buzz in the pole community! Prior to Voluptuous Vixen, the only other plus size pole competition was Dangerous Curves, founded by Roz the Diva and now headed by Tausha Ostander. There are tons of pole dancing competitions held every year, so why shouldn’t the plus size pole community offer more than one opportunity to compete? When I heard the news from Tasha that she was starting Voluptuous Vixen, I was instantly intrigued! I think we’re in for a lot of exciting things with this competition. Join me in getting to know Tasha as she shares her vision for the Voluptuous Vixen Plus Size Pole Dancing Competition!

1. Name (or pole nickname), city, state and how long you’ve been Poling?

Tasha aka DC Pole Lady and I’ve been seriously poling for about 2 years. For about 10 years I would take beginner classes here and there but really started to take it seriously about 2 years ago.

2. What inspired you to start a plus size pole competition?

I was discouraged about poling until I met Curvy Diva. I didn’t think that I could do the things smaller women could do due to my size. Her impressive ability to do any and everything on the pole encouraged me. I also saw many posts online basically body shaming any curvy girl that dared to record themselves pole dancing. For a good year I thought about doing some type of show paying homage to all curvy polers but it wasn’t until a friend encouraged me that I finally made a decision.

3. Will this pole competition run opposite of the Dangerous Curves competition? (i.e. Last year, DC was in October. Will this be held in a different month to provide curvy women with an additional opportunity to compete?)

I actually didn’t know about Dangerous Curves until I started to research (aka google) plus size pole competitions. It’s crazy that there’s only 1 in the whole nation. I actually do not know when their next competition is but I decided to hold Voluptuous Vixen on November 5, 2017!

4. What can people expect from the first Voluptuous Vixen Pole Competition?

Plus size polers out of the Washington, DC area leaving spectators in awe. We will have level 1 (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place), Level 2 (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place), and TwerkQueen.

5. You’re running a Go Fund Me page to assist in getting the competition up and running. What will the money raised go to?

Definitely rental fees and trophies. Depending on how much I raise, I’d also like to use money for competition quality poles, pole extensions, a special prize for 1st place winners, etc. I will also use a percentage of the competition proceeds to purchase and donate insulated winter clothes for the homeless.

6. Have you already secured any judges? If so, who?

Yes, 2 judges so far… Curvy Diva and Alex Asuzu

7. How can people donate?

I’m hoping to raise at least $900. I will be holding 2 showcases to bring awareness to these awesome polers and to raise money. The first will be held on March 11, 2017 at 9PM at Jordins Paradise in Washington, DC. Anyone interested in performing can email me at dcpolelady@gmail.com an entry fee for all non-performers is $10 at the door.
folks can also donate here…

8. What do you feel that this new competition will mean for the plus size pole community?

Even more acknowledgement. Not only that this community exists, but also that we kick ass and we overcome like bosses. It will also mean more doors opening and more encouragement to those who are just starting out and who may feel discouraged (like I did). Challenging those who are already awesome… to be even more spectacular.

9. When and where do you anticipate the first Voluptuous Vixen Pole Competition being held?

The event will be held at Pole Pressure, DC!
I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited about this competition! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Voluptuous Vixen plus size pole competition!
